Being at approximately 5,000 feet in elevation provides Payson with fairly mild winters and hot, but not scalding hot, summers. Daytime temperatures this time of year reach into the 90s. However, unlike the deserts, it does cool down in the evenings. Through September, thunderstorms can loom during the afternoons and provide drenching rains at times. When planning outdoor activities, make sure plenty of water is on hand and you might keep an umbrella near by.
